The 4 Resilience Types: Reframer, Recharger, Adapter, or Sustainer?

Bounce back.

Push through.

Keep going.

We all talk about resilience as if it looks the same for everyone. When the reality is resilience doesn't wear one face.

Over the years of coaching leaders, entrepreneurs, and teams, I’ve seen resilience show up in very different ways. Some people thrive by reframing situations. Others find strength in challenging the odds. Some keep going through consistency. And others adapt quickly to whatever comes their way.

That’s why I created the Resilience Quiz - to help you discover your unique way of being resilient.
And it turns out, there are 4 main types of resilience.

1. The Reframer

Reframers have the ability to shift perspective. They don’t ignore challenges, they look at them from a new angle.
Where others see setbacks, Reframers ask: “What else could this mean?”
They are strong at finding lessons, silver linings, and alternative paths.

Strengths: Optimism, problem-solving, perspective-shifting.
Growth Edge: Sometimes they risk dismissing real pain by trying to reframe too quickly.

2. The Recharger

Rechargers know resilience isn’t built by running on empty. They’re intentional about rest, recovery, and energy renewal.
They protect their boundaries and prioritize practices that refill their tank so they can keep showing up strong.

Strengths: Energy management, balance, sustainability.
Growth Edge: They may lean on recharging so much that they avoid reframing or adapting - slipping into rest as a hiding place instead of a renewal strategy.

3. The Adapter

Adapters thrive in change. They pivot, adjust, and find new ways forward when things don’t go as planned.
They’re resourceful problem-solvers who see change as an opening, not a threat.

Strengths: Flexibility, innovation, creativity.
Growth Edge: Too much adapting can lead to scattered focus or difficulty finishing what they start.

4. The Sustainer

Sustainers lean on steady habits and discipline. They don’t need big shifts to survive a challenge - they keep going through consistency and reliability.
They bring stability in uncertain times.

Strengths: Routine, dependability, calm under pressure.
Growth Edge: They may resist change or hold on to routines even when a shift is necessary.

Why This Matters

Most resilience advice is one-size-fits-all: “Stay positive.” “Work harder.” “Push through.”
But not everyone builds resilience the same way.

If you’re a Recharger, ignoring rest will drain you.
If you’re a Sustainer, being told to constantly “switch it up” may leave you unsettled.
If you’re a Reframer, perspective is your superpower, but you’ll still need other tools.

The key is knowing your type and training it.
